The 1934 PD9 Ward’s Sporties pins were created by the Ward Baking Company. The pins are small, and red, white, and blue. The set is catalogued as PD9 in the American Card Catalog. It is one of six bakery pin issues classified in the publication with the PD designation. Pins are approximately 1 1/4″ in diameter.
The Ward Bread Company was organized by Robert B. Ward in New York, Brooklyn and Newark in 1900. Around 1910, The Ward's Bakeries built two big factories in Bronx, NY and Brooklyn, NY. By November 1911, the company starts to sell their famous "Ward's Tip-top Bread" for 5 & 10 cents loaves.
