War of the Worlds - 1978

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells, first serialised in 1897 by Pearson’s Magazine in the UK and by Cosmopolitan magazine in the US. The novel’s first appearance in hardcover was in 1898 from publisher William Heinemann of London. Written between 1895 and 1897, it is one of the earliest stories to detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. The novel is the first-person narrative of both an unnamed protagonist in Surrey and of his younger brother in London as southern England is invaded by Martians. The novel is one of the most commented-on works in the science fiction canon

The War of the Worlds has inspired seven films, as well as various radio dramas, comic-book adaptations, video games, a number of television series, and sequels or parallel stories by other authors.

World League of American Football (WLAF) : 1991-1992

 


Originally founded in 1989 as the World League of American Football (WLAF), the league was envisioned as a transatlantic league encompassing teams from both North America and Europe. In 1992 the league wwas reformed as World League. The League suspended play in 1993, returing in 1995 as NFL Europe. The concept of the league was to serve as a developmental minor league for the National Football League.



Initially, the WLAF consisted of seven teams in North America and three in Europe. From 1991 to 1992, the ten-team WLAF was split into three divisions: North America East, North America West, and Europe with a ten-game regular season schedule.

Europe: Barcelona Dragons (Spain) Frankfurt Galaxy (Germany) London Monarchs (England)
North America East: NY/NJ Knights - Montreal Machine (Canada) – Orlando Thunder – Raleigh Durham Skyhawks – Ohio Glory (replaced the Skyhawks)
North America West: San Antonio Riders – Sacramento Surge – Birmingham Fire

Mandy is a 2018 Belgian-American surrealist action horror film directed by Italian-Canadian filmmaker Panos Cosmatos, from a screenplay by Cosmatos and Aaron Stewart-Ahn, and based on a story by Cosmatos. Starring Nicolas Cage. The film follows Red Miller (Cage), a lumberjack seeking vengeance against cult leader Jeremiah Sand, as well as his devout followers, for the murder of his girlfriend, Mandy Bloom.

ackie Gleason (1916 – 1987) was an American comedian, actor, writer, and composer also known as "The Great One". He developed a style and characters from growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and was known for his brash visual and verbal comedy, exemplified by his city bus driver character Ralph Kramden in the television series The Honeymooners. He also developed The Jackie Gleason Show, which maintained high ratings from the mid-1950s through 1970. The series originated in New York City, but filming moved to Miami Beach, Florida, in 1964 after Gleason took up permanent residence there.

Among his notable film roles were Minnesota Fats in 1961's The Hustler (co-starring with Paul Newman) and Buford T. Justice in the Smokey and the Bandit trilogy from 1977 to 1983 (co-starring Burt Reynolds).

DC Comics  are rolling out a series of six collectible  pins in promotion of Dark Days: Metal and their associated on-shot comic issuse. The Pins will be sold to retailers for $5.00 per 25 pin bundles.  The pins will be themed to the Evil Batman one-shots with each being released in tandem with those issues, usually free to the customer.
