2017-Jan-06 – Prudential Center, Newark, NJ – Thirty-five years after he brought NHL hockey to New Jersey, including two Stanley Cup Championships under his watch, Dr. John J. McMullen was celebrated by the Devils as the team’s first Ring of Honor inductee. The first 9,000 Devils fans through the doors will receive a commemorative 1.75-inch Ring of Honor commemorative lapel pin.
Dr. McMullen purchased the Colorado Rockies in 1982 and moved the franchise to the Meadowlands, renaming the team the New Jersey Devils after a fan vote. The logo design combines the outline of the Rockies logo in the colors of the Devils, with a central Devils logo
2014-Oct-24 - The New Jersey Devils honor Glenn “Chico” Resch for his 22 years of service to the organization. The team's goalie during the inaugural 1982-83 season in New Jersey, Chico played in 198 games over four season. In 1996, he joined MSG Networks as the color analyst, broadcasting Devils games for 18 memorable years.
Built to celebrate contributions to the legacy and tradition of the franchise, the Ring of Honor highlights individuals who have impacted the organization on and off the ice. Started in 2017 with the induction of the team’s founder, Dr. John J. McMullen, the Ring of Honor. These selections will be made by a “Ring of Honor Committee”, formed by the organization, which will meet to discuss and help decide future honorees.
