“Fireman Frank” on station KRON-TV, San Francisco in the mid-1950s. The host Firemen Frank was George Lemont, a San Fransisco deejay who assumed the role after the original host died. Lemont’s humor was appealing both to children and adults and shows included the studio crew laughing off camera at things which probably went over the kids’ heads.
Characters from the show are shown on these buttons. Dynamo Dudley Robot Police and Karl the Karrot, a beatnik with nod to sponsor Keds sneakers. Karl’s dialogue consisted entirely of “Blubble-lubble-lubble.”
Buttons were made by the Star Engraving Co. of San Francisco.
During the golden age of television it was common to have an adult host a children’s show filled with cartoons, puppets, games, prizes as a main part of local programming. Many oif these shows were never seen outside of their broadcasting area.
